Thankful

It's no secret to anyone that knows me that I love warm, sunny weather.  I knew my first winter in Klamath Falls would be an adjustment.

Here is what I have discovered I love about winter so far:

1.  Having a wood burning stove.  I am starting to get quite good at starting up this little stove of ours and will often have a roaring fire while I cook in the kitchen.  Cozy.

2.  The Sauna.  The house that we're renting has one of these.  I didn't feel so inclined to use it until the weather cooled off.  I'm still trying to figure out the best time of day to enjoy a nice sweat.  Each time I use it I feel refreshed and relaxed.

3.  Yoga.  I was pleasantly surprised to find a really great little yoga studio here in Klamath Falls.  Again, I'm still playing with schedules since Jared's is quite unpredictable and yoga studios don't have child care.  I'm working on making this a regular practice.

4.  Comfort Food.  I am keenly aware that this love is terrible for my waistline.  However, I had forgotten how lovely it is to come in from the cool weather and eat a hot meal.  Steamy chili with cornbread, creamy stroganoff, or a fresh cup of hot cocoa.  Yum.

It has been so great to have Jared here most mornings - something I had never had in residency.  He always cooks

the kids breakfast and they always request pancakes.  At some point we bought some of the whipped cream that you squirt from the can.  This is the most preferred method of eating pancakes now.

Jared had a crazy schedule on a week that the kids had a Thursday, Friday, and Monday off.  By Monday I was ready to get out of town for a bit but not willing to go far without another adult.  We settled on going to the Medford Children's Museum.  It was a fun way to spend the day.

Jake did a 6 week gymnastics class in the home of my friend.  The parents were invited to the last class.  Jake was a total show-off but obviously had a lot of fun.

Speaking of Jake, this boy insists that I pick out his clothes in the morning but as soon as he steps foot in the door from preschool he changes into ball shorts and a t-shirt.  The other day I asked him to get his shoes on so we could go to the store.  I was busy getting Lucas in the car and gathering up all that we needed to take.  When we arrived at the store and started walking in, I noticed Jake's outfit of choice.  Funny boy.

Marley lost another tooth.  As she was skipping back to bed, she told me that she hoped the tooth fairy would give her $20.  I told her I didn't think she was that rich.  The next morning I found a note that she had slipped under her pillow asking the tooth fairy to bring her $6 dollars and that she thought the tooth fairy was very nice.  I don't think the tooth fairy saw the note.

  2. Yay! I'm so glad you posted. It's fun to hear a little of what's going on. I wonder if I'd ever use a sauna. Probably not in AZ, no matter how cold it got. I sweat enough the other 8 months of the year. Miss you guys.
