32

When Jared asked me a few days before my birthday if I wanted to go to dinner or do something special on my day, I declined.  For me, it's easier to not get my hopes up and then get disappointed than just not have plans at all.  Jared really has little control over his schedule and in this past month alone, I have had to cancel plans or go to dinner without him, etc.  So, as fun as it is to have plans, I had no plans going into the day.

I was fine with that.

I got up and did my usual household stuff (and maybe a few extra things - I like having a clean house) and then headed off to swim lessons with the kids.  I figured afterwards we would go somewhere fun (and kid friendly) for lunch and do whatever we felt like for the day.

Getting into the car after swim I received a text from Jared

Jared:  Want to go to lunch?
Me:  Now?
Jared yes!
Me:  Uhh...all 3 of us are wet, so probably not.

(I figured he had a lunch break at work and wanted us to come into the cafeteria.  My kids LOVE the cafeteria and both of my kids aspire to one day work at the hospital.  I'm pretty sure that aspiration begins and ends with that cafeteria.  It's really not anything special, but they know that they can basically pick out anything they want when we go.  Dinner sometimes ends up being fries, yogurt covered pretzels, and a smoothie or chocolate milk, chips, and a donut.  Healthy, I know, but we really don't do it often.)

Anyway, I put my phone down at that point because I was being responsible and not texting while driving.

We pull around the bend to our home and see Jared's car sitting in the carport.  I was seriously confused.  It was an unusually slow night in the trauma department and there were no scheduled cases for the day so Jared left the other 2 residents to handle whatever else might come in and headed home to hang-out with us.  It was seriously so great because #1 it's my birthday!! and #2 he does a 30 hour shift from Friday-Saturday.

We went to lunch, went to a movie, went swimming, hung-out and ate yummy cake.
