You Know Your Husband Works A Lot When...

  • Your daughter runs up to total strangers in the store that have dark hair yelling, "daddy!!"
  • You husband logs 92 hrs at the hospital the week you move and that's only because the attendings were "generous" and didn't call him back in for small cases and let him leave "early" a couple of nights.
  • Most of the contractors that you work with have never even met your husband.

Last night as we were climbing into bed after deciding to call it a night at around 11:30, Jared says, "All I do is work".

 I laughed.

"I wake up really early and go to work all day and then I get home and work until I'm too tired and then I turn around and do it all again the next day."

Then we both laughed and agreed that we were a little crazy for choosing this - both the career and the remodel.

Good thing he still likes to operate and it's a good thing that I like him! ;)

  1. Once I heard a story about a doctor who spent so much time working that he didn't even know where the back door to his own house was. I guess that kind of stuff comes with the job. Hopefully it never gets that bad. You are amazing, I would go crazy if Dustin worked that much.

  2. Oh Hyde, I wish you were closer...I hope all is going well. I know everyone says that we don't know how you're doing it, but you just do what you have to. I think you're doing a pretty amazing job of juggling everything. You're one tough cookie. I can't wait to see more pics of the house coming along.

  3. Thanks guys. I'm not really trying to give myself a pity party. :) But, you tend to forget some of these things unless you write them down. Besides, like you said the other day Suz, these are all good things--new house and plenty of work. A lot of people are struggling in those areas right now.

  4. I feel a bit of your pain! Why did we decide this was a good road? Because eventually it will play out that our husbands are boss and get to go home while the residents handle the "small" cases.

    Oooohhhh, someday.

  5. I think/hope that it is just the system taking advantage of the residents. It should get better, right? Crazy!

  7. You can handle this, like Susy said, your a tough cookie! Their will be a day when he is home, and you'll think now what do I do with you home :)

Is baby boy Ogao's room ready? It's coming close for his birth, like 4/5 weeks? I can't believe it. I try to tell myself to enjoy this pregnancy, it will be my last. But then when my body aches so badly and don't mention the contractions, its hard to enjoy the fun movement inside! Oh, have you decided a name? Is your mom coming when you have him, I might just send some stuff with her.

  8. I feel the same way with Joel, granted he doesn't work nearly as much as Jared, but it feels like he goes to work and then he's in night school. I figure we just have to pay our dues and the days of laying on the beach together will come later. You hang in there and I will too. They are definitely keepers.

  9. I can't be induced b/c I had an emergency c-section with Michael and I'm gonna try a VBAC with this baby. Hopefully it will all go fine. I'm a bit nervous.

  10. 92 hours! We had a Summer where Cody was working 70-80 hours a week: that was crazy and we didn't even have Cooper yet. You are one patient and amazing woman!

  11. Heidi, it would have been so fun to have you there! Jess graduates in May but is now done with her Milwaukee rotations. She totally needs to start a blog. And she's preggers! :) Yay! She's due Nov 2nd, I think!

  12. Yeah, I was induced with Crue 10 days early b/c his heartrate was low. My doc monitored it for an hour or so and decided she'd rather be safe then sorry. I was only in labor for about 2 1/2 hours and pushed twice...it was like a vacation. So I decided that I wanted to be induced with Michael too. Unfortunately it didn't go quite so smoothly:(

  13. Heidi - I'm super curious where your house is exactly - email me with the address, I would love to come and see what you are doing sometime!

I can totally relate with so much of what you guys are going through - both because we are sort of doing a version of this again ourselves and because when he first started his own firm we were remodeling our house and doing most of the work ourselves and then they called him to be a Bishop (and I had a two year old) so that was insane!

It's all worth it in the end but sometimes it is hard to see the end in sight!
