Cravings

I think I need to post a current picture of myself so that everyone can see just how pregnant I am.  :)  I can see a difference in myself, but wearing my thick sweaters here in Alaska hides it pretty well.  I don't think it's really obviously yet.

I have a theory about pregnancy sickness, cravings, & food in general.  Does it seem like I've only been posting about food lately?  I swear it's all I think about lately.  That's sad.

Anyway, when I was pregnant with Marley I felt yucky a few days but I wouldn't really say I was sick.  I didn't take a sick day.  I don't know, maybe my previous co-workers remember it differently.  Maybe I didn't take a sick day, but I moped around the office...I don't remember. With Marley, I do not remember having cravings or any type of food fetish.  However, this time around I have felt really pretty bad.  I'm 12 weeks now and am having good days here and there, THANKFULLY!  I have also have had cravings.   Crazy food cravings.  A couple of weeks ago I was craving Cool Ranch Doritos.  I love those.  Anyway, I opened the bag and ate a ton of them.  I haven't been able to look at them since and I'm kinda sad.  I hope I didn't ruin my taste for those Doritos forever.

So....to my theory.  My theory is (at least for me) when I'm sick everything sounds disgusting.  When I think of something that I think I could actually digest, even if it's weird, I eat it.  I've labeled those things cravings.  Make sense?  Why all the high-fat foods?  Probably because I needed more calories to sustain this 2 inch creature inside of me.  ha ha :)  I don't know.  I'm not sure how many more calories you're supposed to eat when you're pregnant or even if it is a signifigant difference.  Is it typical to get cravings when you're pregnant even when you're not sick?  Any thoughts?

  1. I craved chicken like crazy with Abby, even when I was throwing it up all the time. :( Oh, and Strawberry Limeades from Sonic. Mmmm... I think Adam took me there at least once a week. With Drew there was nothing. It's funny how it can be different. I hope you start feeling better soon.

  2. Yes, I agree I am the same way. When I am really hungry, borderline nauseous, everything sounds gross. But then a food pops into my thoughts and that's all I can eat.

I have had a true craving though. With Amaya, I wanted black olives. I never liked olives before, wanted to like them just didn't. But when I got that craving I bought some and ate the whole can. Went and bought more and ate all of those too. Now, she is 21 months, she LOVES em eats them like candy.
And now I think they're okay, but don't think they taste as good as they did when I was pregnant.

    Sorry about the long comment.

  4. There must be more than one type of craving. I agree with you on those cravings. I had those with all three pregnancies. I also had the cravings for some thing that I had and hadn't previously liked, but it was where I couldn't get it out of my head! I would think about it and literally almost taste it! It drove me crazy until I ate it. Then I was good for a day or two.... HAHA!
You do need to post some baby bump pictures though! I LOVE those!

  5. With my boy pregnancies, I've had major cravings! Seriously I don't normally down an entire bag of nacho cheese doritos! They say the baby is the size of a kidney bean but I say it's got to be the size of a pony! :) Anyhoo...let the cravings begin eh!

  6. Whenever I would ask Judd...why do you think this? Or how come that?? His response is ALWAYS..."don't try to make sense of it, you're pregnant!" I have sense learned that statement is sooooooooooo true. There really is no thinking through the crazy things that happen when you're pregnant. There really is no pattern and things change and don't make sense ALL THE TIME! It's weird and crazy. So enjoy the ride; the second time. This second pregnancy is full of differences. So random!

  7. When people ask me if I had cravings at all with Cooper I usually tell them no because I was the same as you. I ate things that didn't sound "as gross" as everything else. I didn't CRAVE them like some people.

  8. It's not YOU who wanted the Doritos...it was the baby. You just happened to enjoy them.

  9. I bet you are going to have a boy! Just a guess. It's so weird yet so amazing how the body works isn't it! I had cravings too well I still have cravings, but weird cravings with my pregnancies like those fatty hostess lemon pies. But of course for some reason when I get prego the sound of Doritos makes me want to vomit, but I do like them when I am not prego, and my kids both love Doritos, go figure??

  10. My pregnancy cravings are totally random. I crave fruits and vegetables. I wish I were that way when I wasn't pregnant . . .

  11. Congrats to you guys! That is so exciting. Pregnancy can be hard, I am nervous that some of my fav foods I won't be able to go back to eating again. I hope you feel better!

  12. Congrats! That's awesome! I've been way sick with all three of mine, and I heard that with boys you crave protein and with girls you crave carbs. I've only craved carbs and have 3 girls, so there ya go!

  13. It's funny reading everyone's pregnancy randomness. I totally craved steak with all three, once I was able to eat much of anything. With Treven I...brace yourself, this is disgusting...I craved KFC. GROSS! And with Lexi I just craved slurpees or anything slushy. I remember Todd going on several midnight Maverick runs. Ewww. It's making me nauseous just talking about all this prego stuff. I hope you're starting to feel better!

  14. I wanted corn dogs. Preferably some that were a few days old and had been rotating under the lights for many hours. Yummy. :)
Congrats on your pregnancy! Maybe it's twins! I was WAY more hungry when I carried Max & Mae than when I was pregnant with Quinn. Hmmmmm. Start thinking of twin names!
