Book Review: 1,000 White Women
I just finished this one. I really liked it. Thanks for the recommendation Katie!
After the civil war at a peace conference, a Cheyenne indian chief requested 1,000 white brides to marry with their indian warriors to integrate the indians into the white culture. They have a matrilineal society where all the children born belong to their mother's tribe. To the Indians, this seemed like the perfect way to assimilate their tribe into the white man's world. Of course the government never agreed to give them white wives. However, this novel explores the idea that they did.
